Betsy Schmalz - President

Betsy Schmalz is an accomplished senior executive with a well-established reputation for management, strategic planning and creative product development within the personal care sectors of the consumer product goods category. Ms. Schmalz has held senior management positions at three of the largest global marketers of cosmetics and fragrances. She has assisted management in the identification, acquisition and integration of several add-on companies. Additionally, Ms. Schmalz has provided concept development and management oversight for the introduction of new products to expand existing franchises into new sectors and provide new platforms for growth within existing businesses. In addition, she has been a past adjunct professor and a member of the Advisory Board of the Fashion Institute of Technology, as well as serving on the boards of several NGO and philanthropic organizations.

Ms. Schmalz is currently the owner of American Flavors and Fragrances, a privately held company that provides both strategic development services and the sale of flavors and fragrances to leading global marketers in the personal care, home fragrance and household products categories.

In 2014, she was named President of Skyler Brand Ventures. Skyler is a biosciences-based skincare incubator run by scientists and managers from the beauty, luxury,  pharmaceutical and dermatological industries. Their goal is to commercialize patented, scientifically- derived molecules and delivery systems for health, wellness, and anti aging-benefits in the non pharmacy consumer sector.

Previously, Ms. Schmalz held several senior management positions for The Limited Corp. As Executive Vice-President for Beauty Avenues, The Limited’s in-house new product incubator, she had responsibility for concept development, R&D and Technical Services for all Limited brands. Prior to the formation of Beauty Avenues, Ms. Schmalz was responsible for all product development for Bath and Body and Victoria’s Secret.

Ms. Schmalz was Senior Vice president of Corporate Product Development with responsibility for the Estee Lauder, Aramis and Prescriptive brands for approximately 12 years. Prior to joining Estee Lauder Inc., she was Vice President of New Product Development for Revlon.

Ms. Schmalz received the Cosmetic Executive Women’s Cosmetic Executive of the Year in 2005. She remains actively involved with CEW as well as the Fashion Group International.

Ms. Schmalz remains very active in her community and has been a past board member of the Advisory Board for the Upper Room Spiritual Center as well as a board member of the Daytop of New Jersey, Monmouth County Family and Children Services, and member of the Board of Trustees of Riverview Medical Center Foundation. She presently resides on the board of Applied DNA Sciences in Stonybrook New York, a leader in the field of bio-tech sciences.

Ms. Schmalz is a graduate of Georgian Court University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology as well as receive an honorary doctorate of Public Service at the Georgian Court University.
